From Stability to Strategy: Our Long-Term Wealth Plan

In 2019, I was pregnant with my first child, working in education—with a bachelor's degree from Temple University. I earned my GED at 16, did City Year through AmeriCorps as my senior year, and worked three jobs to put myself through school—becoming the first in my family to graduate from college.

And yet, I was making less than $25,000 a year—with no benefits, no safety net, and no room to breathe.

That baby changed everything. She made us question every system we relied on and gave us the courage to build something better, from the ground up.

Since 2020, we’ve:

✅ Earned over $850,000 in employment income (selling scientific testing and technology)
✅ Managed over $1 million in financial flows—including credit, passive revenue, renovations, and education
✅ Transformed a home into a fully customized, high-functioning family homestead
✅ Secured 10 acres of fertile land—with zero mortgage

But we didn’t do it alone.

In 2020, my mother-in-law purchased the property for $80,000—creating a unique opportunity for us to keep land and capital in the family. We later bought it outright, converting her purchase into a living inheritance and securing ownership without debt.

My father-in-law, a licensed contractor, partnered with my husband to gut and rebuild the home. We expanded the footprint and invested over $200,000 to create a resilient, multigenerational space that reflects our values—and functions like a private, family-held asset.

And just last year, I saw the other side of legacy.

When my mother passed, we sold her home and received a modest inheritance.
She was a teen mom with no support—and the fact that she had anything to leave behind was miraculous.

But there was no estate plan. Sorting her affairs during grief and navigating family dynamics took a serious emotional toll.

That’s why we’ve already secured life insurance and are setting up a trust and LLC— so our kids inherit clarity, not chaos.

💭 THE QUESTION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

At the time?
Nothing.

So we changed it.

🔑 STRATEGIC MOVES THAT CREATED FREEDOM

While working full-time remotely since 2019 and raising two children (both of whom I nursed for over a year—and exclusively for the first 6 months), I made strategic moves to level up our financial independence:

• Earned my MBA (while pregnant with our second)

• Became a Doctoral Student in Public Administration

• Am on track to complete a Graduate Certificate in Data Science (2 months to go)

• Enrolled in a leadership and governance fellowship through DiverseForce on Boards

My husband, an Army veteran, also made impactful moves:

• Primary caregiver to our children, enabling me to focus on business growth

• Earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as a first-generation college graduate

• Maintains a recording studio, which contributes to our creative and income-generating projects

• Co-built our land-based ecosystem, setting us up for long-term wealth

Together, we’ve turned our skills, land, and values into long-term assets:
